A different year, a different game, a different challenge...

Another year, another Guitar Hero contest!

Remember that big tournament held every March in cities across the US?

That's right! Guitar Hero 3 will be straight up tourney style...single elimination, entirely heads up.

Move up the brackets against multiple opponents to eventually be crowned the newest Defcon Guitar Hero!

You will DEFINATELY play more then just 3 or 4 songs this year...get ready to be tired and have your arms cramp into submission...

Rules (cause they tell us we have to have them...)

  • The contest will consist of 3 levels of play, Medium, Hard and Expert.
  • The contest will be played on Guitar Hero III, on the Xbox 360.
  • All contestants should be at their assigned time to play 10 minutes before their time.  There will be some leeway if you are a few minutes late, but don't expect to get your turn if you show up hungover an hour after your time.
  • You may use your own guitar, as long as it is for, and compatible with, Xbox 360.  If you choose to use your own guitar, and you have problems with it, and lose, tough shit.  The song will not be played over.  You may, however, switch to the provided guitar for the rest of the songs.
  • Free play is a chance for people that have never played Guitar Hero to have a chance. It's not a chance for contestants to practice. This contest is for everyone, and we want to make sure that is the case. Free play will be limited to one song per person, depending on how many are waiting to play.
  • Contestants may only enter only 1 level.
  • You can not enter all three levels. Trust me, if you are good enough to win the Expert level, there's no need to win the Medium level also...
Scoring
  • NOTE: Depending on the number of participants, heads-up may either be 1 song, or the best 2 out of 3!
  • As stated before, the contest will be set up tournament style.
  • 2 players will play heads-up, with the winner advancing after winning 2 out of 3 songs.
  • Songs will be picked by the "Awesome Random Song Picker" developed just for this contest!
  • "Through the Fire and Flames will NOT be included in the regular tournament, nor will the Bonus tracks.  TTFAF is toooo damn long...
  • A little more info on the song picker.  We have included "Player1 Chooses" and "Player2 Chooses".  If these come up, obviously, that player gets to choose which song to play.  In the regular tournament, the player may not choose Bonus tracks, nor TTFAF.

  • FINALS!
  • Play will continue tournament style until only 2 players are left in each division.
  • The winner will be announced after winning 4 out of 7 songs!
  • This format, and the decision to use random songs will TRULY weed out the BEST GH3 player! You must know every song in order to have a chance at winning!
  • Guitar Hero 3 bonus tracks will not be used in the regular tournament, but may be used in the Final heads-up rounds. If you are THE Guitar Hero, you'll be expected to know those too...
  • "Through the Fire and Flames" WILL be included in the Finals, and may also be chosen by a player if "Player1 Chooses" or "Player2 Chooses" comes up in the Finals.
